Biographies of the Stars

Norm Breyfogle

Norman K. Breyfogle was born in Iowa City, Iowa on February 27, 1960. At the tender age of twelve, Norm began taking lesson from commercial artist Andrew Benson. He eventually attended Northern Michigan University , graduating with a B.F.A. in illustration, and a 3.25 GPA!

Norm moved to California in 1982, going to work for a company as a draftsman, and then he went to work for United Space Boosters as a technical illustrator designing a training manual for part of the Space Shuttle program.

Then in 1984, Norm drew a six page story for DC's New Talent Showcase, beginning a short run in the title. This was followed by several issues of American Flagg, and then it wasn't long before he got his first big break in comics when he was assigned the Batman for DC. He drew the Batman for six years (1987-93), resulting in popular fan recognition.

Among his many other accomplishments are the numerous awards he has received, this talented artist has gotten. Among those awards are two first place blue ribbons at the San Diego Con in 1984 for "Best Comic or Con Related art" and "Most Popular Artist" as well as a second place in 1985 (behind the first place Moebius) for "Comic Art at the Show". Great accomplishments for someone who started drawing because "...I was better at it than anything else!"

Hi art, influenced by such comic greats as Joe Kubert, Neal Adams, Alex Toth, Curt Swan, Frank Miller and Jim Aparo, reflects a slick and clean line backed up with his tremendous ability for technical design, and his Batman work is startling in it's similarity to Jim Aparo's, due no doubt to Norm's respect for this artist's work.
